Christian Motzke of ISIMAT GmbH Siebdruckmaschinen, delves into the effectivity of indirect digital decoration (IDD) and its ability to open up new possibilities for decoration

Deciding between conventional screen printing and modern, digital-printing technologies for decoration has been a common dilemma for many companies.
The emergence of Isimat’s IDD technology has addressed a critical gap in the market. It presents decoration companies with a significant decision-making challenge. By integrating two essential technologies – screen and digital printing – IDD unlocks both potential and innovative choices.

FLEXIBILITY, TIME AND COST

These are the three major factors that effect a successful project in the world of printing. ISIMAT – a pioneer in printing technology – has continually evolved to meet these demands. One noteworthy advancement within ISIMAT’s repertoire, is IDD. This innovative approach combines the precision of digital printing with the versatility and proven advantages of ISIMAT’s high-performance printing machines for extruded tubes or aluminium cans. Synergies with other decoration technologies, such as screen printing or inLINE FOILING® (multi-colour metallisation), opens up new possibilities for enhanced product customisation and quality. IDD enables users to react with flexibility to changing customer demands.

A TWO-UNIT SOLUTION

The technological principle of ISIMAT’s modular solution consists of two units. Inside the digital-printing module, a carrier film is printed with the individual artwork. The second unit – the transfer module – is integrated into the machine, such as the TH9 hybrid-printing machine. It ensures that the artwork is transferred to the substrate in perfect alignment. The transferred print image can be applied to a blank or already decorated article. This method provides a unique blend of traditional and digital printing, leveraging the benefits of both technologies in just one machine run.

KEY FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES

Flexibility

IDD offers the best of both worlds by connecting digital printing with conventional decoration. The tactile effects with screen printing are combined with digital printing to create unique artworks. In addition, IDD can be combined with inLINE FOILING® or
digital inLINE FOILING for brilliant designs with excellent finishing and multi-colour metallisation. This versatility makes it suitable for diverse requirements and industries, from healthcare to cosmetics.

Enhanced colour reproduction

The digital-printing aspect of this decoration method ensures precise colour reproduction to achieve vibrant and accurate results. ISIMAT’s advanced colour-management system ensures consistency across different substrates or diameters. Thus meeting the high standards of modern printing requirements.

Cost efficiency

IDD reduces resources by minimising ink wastage and reducing production costs.
The ability to print variable data – without the need for extensive set-up changes – contributes to improved cost efficiency in small to medium print runs. This makes it ideal for different batch sizes.

High-resolution printing

ISIMAT’s IDD offers high-resolution capabilities. It can capture complex details and produce sharp images up to 1,200dpi. This is particularly advantageous for applications requiring complex graphics.

Environmental considerations

The technology aligns with ISIMAT and KURZ’s sustainability goals. IDD reduces the environmental impact associated with traditional printing methods. With minimised set-up times, less ink consumption and less material use, ISIMAT’s IDD is a more eco-friendly alternative, as the carrier material is recyclable.

INDUSTRY BREAKTHROUGH

ISIMAT is thrilled to share the success story of its IDD system, marking a significant breakthrough in the industry. The system has achieved its first successful installation in Germany. As the first customer to embrace this revolutionary system, the German company has positioned itself as pioneers in the world of tube decoration. This success story marks the beginning of a transformative journey. The IDD system is ready to revolutionise the decoration landscape, offering innovative solutions for a range of industries.

CONCLUSION

ISIMAT’s IDD system represents a groundbreaking approach to traditional and digital-printing technologies. ISIMAT’s IDD offers the flexibility of digital printing with the versatility of conventional decoration. This solution caters to diverse industries, emphasising precision, cost efficiency and environmental sustainability. As the printing landscape continues to evolve, the IDD capabilities of ISIMAT, position it as a leader in meeting the demands of modern cosmetics decoration.
