Mustafa Okanovic outlines why digital printing is coming of age
There is significant interest in the world of textiles and apparel in taking advantage of digital printing, not only for sample making but also for economical production of the smaller lot sizes that are becoming increasingly common.
Until now, a significant barrier has been ink - digitally printed textiles need to feature vibrant colours with a broad colour gamut, good washability, durability over time, and a nice feel to the fabric.
There is also a requirement to print on all types of textiles with minimal impact to the environment.
This is the Holy Grail for digital textile printing, and although we are not all the way there yet, progress is being made.
